The University of New Haven announced today that its Pompea College of Business has created a partnership with the New York Mets of Major League Baseball to become the franchise’s first higher education partner.
Through the partnership, students will be able to take part in site visits and mentorship sessions with employees of the Mets, who will also participate in course collaborations through the Sport, Tourism, and Hospitality Management department. In addition, the University of New Haven name and brand will be showcased in digital content created by the Mets.
“Creating a partnership with a franchise as recognizable and successful as the Mets will provide unmatched experiences for our students,” said Jens Frederiksen, Ph.D. “Our university-wide dedication to creating partnerships with industry leaders reflects how seriously we take the mandate to maximize the investment of our students and their families. This is what differentiates the University of New Haven in a competitive higher education marketplace.”
The Pompea College of Business, which is accredited by AACSB – placing it among the top business schools in the world – offers ǰ’s and master’s degrees in sport management. The graduate program, featuring concentrations in business analytics and college athletic administration, has been ranked by SportBusiness as the best in the world for graduate outcomes.
“We’re excited to team up with the University of New Haven and the Pompea College of Business,” said Mets Senior Vice President of Partnerships Brenden Mallette. “Giving back to the community and supporting others has always been a core value of the organization, and now we get to bring that passion to the students at the University of New Haven. We can’t wait to help the next generation grow through valuable experiences and mentorship.”
The partnership with the Mets advances the university’s focus on career preparation and career development, which includes requiring all incoming students to upload a resume as well as a university-wide focus on building career pathways and industry partnerships.
“We have a rich history of placing our graduates in influential positions across the sports industry,” said Ceyda Mumcu, Ph.D., the John R. Gehring Professor and chair of Sport, Tourism, and Hospitality Management. “I am grateful for the Mets’ support of our sport management programs, our students, and our faulty, and I look forward to the profound impact that this partnership will have on the educational experience of our students and in raising the visibility of our program, the Pompea College, and the university as a whole.”
“This is an incredible opportunity for the Pompea College of Business,” added Brian Kench, Ph.D., dean of the Pompea College of Business. “The students in our internationally recognized sport management programs will have the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience learning from professionals of one of the most valuable teams in Major League Baseball. I expect this will profoundly impact their career trajectory and the success they experience as graduates.”
